JULY 2009

SIRLOIN STEAK QUIZ

In the Bugs Bunny cartoon, "Rabbit Hood," Bugs pretending to be the King, knights Sheriff John by wacking John on the head with his sceptre, saying:
"Arise, Sir Loin of Beef,
Arise, Earl of Cloves,
Arise, Baron of Munchausen,
Arise, Essence of Myrrh,
...Milk of Magnesia,
...Quarter of Ten.."

Is there any truth to the story that Sirloin
steak got its name when an English king
once knighted a piece of meat, "Sir Loin"?
